- Maintainence release Qmodem SST version 3.1a
-
- The documentation has not been revised to match this release and this
- ERRATA file will serve as the update specifications. This is a MAINT
- release to version 3.1 and contains several fixes for known problems
- and several enhancments indirectly related to these "problems". (it
- should be noted, that only 4 or 5 fixes actually relate to a true
- "BUG". the rest are changes to the way the program actually ran.)
-
-
-
-
- First, Whats new!
-
-
- ■ Qmodem has some new routines in it that allow you to register
- your copy. The registration process will customize your copy
- and put your NAME in the code! Once you get your personal
- registration number, it will be good for all future releases of
- the program. This does not mean all future releases do not need
- to be paid for, just that the registration number will work.
- You must re-register your copy once a year to continue voice and
- BBS support at The Forbin Project.
-
- To register your copy of the program, call the Forbin Project
- BBS at 319-233-6157 and open DOOR #3 from the Qmodem Conference.
- Only registered users who have access to the Qmodem Conference
- will be able to open the DOOR. YOU MUST BE IN THE CONFERENCE!!
- If you are a registered user and do not wish to put up with the
- hassle of calling the BBS (because its so busy!) you can call us
- by voice at (319) 232-4516 and get your registration number over
- the phone. We will be checking the database to verify your
- name!
-
- This is NOT CrippleWare! The distributed version (3.1a) is
- currently registered to [UNREGISTERED COPY] and says so when
- started. It is not crippled in any way and is fully functional.
- (even if you use it more than 180 times...)
-
- To register your copy, (assuming you have your registration
- number handy) you type QMODEM REGISTER and press return. This
- will prompt you for your name as given by the BBS (or on the
- phone). Upper/lower case is not important, but the exact
- spelling and embeded spaces are. Here is an example:
-
- C>qmodem register
- Registered to: [UNREGISTERED COPY]
- Please enter your Registration Name : john friel
- Please enter your Registration Number : 12345
- This software is now registered to JOHN FRIEL
- (and Qmodem will continue to load)
-
-
- If you enter the wrong Registration Number, you will see:
-
- C>qmodem register
- Registered to: [UNREGISTERED COPY]
- Please enter your Registration Name : john friel
- Please enter your Registration Number : 23456
- Invalid Registration Number for this copy!
-
- C>_ (and be back at the DOS prompt)
-
-
- Now, if Qmodem is registered, the opening screen will only blink
- for about a half second and then loar the rest of the program.
- If it is an Unregistered Copy, the opening screen will blink for
- 15 seconds and then start. Unlike previous versions, you cannot
- press a key to skip the delay at the beginning of the program.
- If you want to speed this up, you must register the copy. (this
- is not CrippleWare, just an incentive).
-
- Lastly, you CANNOT distribute an already registered copy! This
- is in violation of the License agreement and you can get into
- big trouble! If you want to pass around a copy of Qmodem, then
- keep a master copy around that is Unregistered. Since the
- registration process embeds your name in the code, it will be
- easy to track down. This also applies to you Sysops.
-
- So, now its registered! You will see this additional line
- everytime it is started:
-
- Registered to : JOHN FRIEL
-
-
-
- ■ DoorWay Mode. This is a special mode of communications that
- will allow Qmodem to send the entire Keyboard scan code set.
- The BBS counterpart to this mode is called DOORWAY, written by
- Marshall Dudley. DOORWAY supports this expanded function key
- mode so you can execute programs from within DOORWAY, and be
- able to use them as if you were actually typing at the other
- computers keyboard! We have started a joint agreement with
- Marshall to produce a special version of DOORWAY that can also
- handle programs that write directly to video memory and TSR's
- such as SideKick. Stay tuned on the Forbin Project BBS for more
- information on this.
-
- To invoke the DoorWay mode, you press the ALT-= sequence. This
- is a toggle, so pressing Alt-= again will turn it off. Qmodem
- comes up in normal mode. When the DoorWay mode is on, the
- ONLINE/OFFLINE indicator in the status line will show "DoorWay".
-
-
- ■ New layout for the QMODEM.CNF file. It has been made larger
- and you need to run the CONV-CNF.COM program included with this
- maint release. It will convert versions 2.0, 2.1, 2.3, 3.0 and
- 3.1 to the new 3.1a format. Just follow the directions, it that
- easy. If you are converting a 2.x version, be sure to modify
- the screen colors while in Qinstall. New options were added and
- you will not see them unless you change their colors from BLACK
- on BLACK. (You have to run Qinstall anyway...) The best thing
- to do, is to go through ALL the pages in Qinstall so you will
- know what all the options are.
-
- Note: Make SURE you change the download buffer blocks on page
- 4,1 to be a value greater than 0.
-
-
-
- ■ New Script Language Features:
-
- ■ The IF command has a new option, $INKEY. This can be used
- to detect if a key has been pressed in the script and jump
- to a LABEL. Example:
-
- ; SCRIPT TO CHECK KBD
- TOP:
- BEEP 200 ;beep the speaker
- IF $INKEY CONT ;if key pressed, go to label CONT:
- GOTO TOP ;go to label TOP:
- CONT:
- INKEY 0 ;read the key into $0
- NOTE The [$0] key was pressed.
- EXIT
-
-
- ■ New FLUSH command. FLUSH has three options as follows:
-
- COM - flushes all characters in the communications
- buffers.
- KBD - flushes all characters in the keyboard buffer.
-
- ALL - flushes both COM and KBD.
-
-
- ■ You can now send a binary zero in the script language by
- using the ^@ sequence. This ^@ can also be stored in a
- function key. Example:
-
- SEND "^@"
-
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Now, the changes to the DOC file...
-
-
- Page iv, paragraph 5, add:
-
- Qmodem may not be distributed after it has been registered
- with the QMODEM REGISTER command. Save a virgin master if you
- wish to share it with others.
-
- Page v, paragraph 10:
-
- (should be deleted. there is no additional charge for the 3.5
- inch disk)
-
- Page 33 "Command Line Parameters", add:
-
- To register your copy of Qmodem, use the REGISTER command
- line parameter.
-
- Command Changes:
-
- Alt-A Pressing the Alt-A key combination will open a window so you
- can select which table to change. After selecting either the
- INPUT or OUTPUT table, you will see the actual table. This
- was added because it was determined that one table would not
- be efffective to both input and output translations.
-
- Alt-D When the R subcommand was invoked, the ESC key would act as
- both the SAVE and EXIT command. Now, you must press F10 to
- save the changes and exit or ESC to abort all changes and
- exit.
-
- Alt-Q The Dial / Re-Dial window primary command D)elete has been
- changed to K)ill. This was done to prevent an accidental
- deletion of a number in the queue if you accidently pressed
- the D key twice. Another nice addition was that the ENTER
- key will invoke the D)ial command immediately after pressing
- Alt-Q.
-
- PgUp Now, the last filename that can be found on the screen is
- automatically placed in the File Allocation Window without
- having to press the PLUS key. You still have the option of
- changing the filename and using the PLUS key to scan for a
- different filename.
-
- Also, the Ymodem Protocol is now working. You cannot use
- wildcards yet, but it is a TRUE YMODEM protocol.
-
- PgDn See PgUp as both fixes apply to the downloads as well. In
- addition, the YMODEM protocol will accept a batch download.
